The following are the services available to eligible birth
parents:
Pre-Adoption Birth Registration and Substituted Birth Registration:
- A birth parent, whose child was born in Manitoba and is now 18+ years of
age, is eligible to apply for their child’s pre-adoption birth
registration and substituted birth registration.
- The pre-adoption birth registration will list the child’s birth name and
details as well as the birth parent(s) information. The substituted
birth registration will list the child’s full name by adoption, to
comply with Manitoba Legislation the adoptive parents’ identifying
information will be redacted from the document.
- The release of your adult child’s identifying information is subject to
any Contact/Disclosure Vetoes, Contact Preferences or past refusals to
register that have been filed.
- Birth fathers who are not listed on the pre-adoption birth registration
will not be entitled to copies of the pre-adoption and substituted birth
registrations.
Non-identifying Adoptive Family Profile:
- A birth parent, whose child’s adoption was granted in Manitoba, is
entitled to apply for an Adoptive Family Profile. This is information on
the family your child joined and regarding your child’s wellbeing and
development prior to the adoption being finalized.
- In compliance with Manitoba Legislation, the Adoptive Family Profile
will not contain any identifying information.
- If the Adoptive Family Profile has been previously requested and
provided a further copy will be shared.
Registering for Contact/Sharing Identifying Information with your child who
was placed for adoption:
- A birth parent, whose child’s adoption was granted in Manitoba, may
register to have contact/share identifying information (i.e. full name,
date of birth and contact information) with their adult child.
- If your adult child also registers to have contact/share identifying
information with you, Manitoba Post-Adoption Services will facilitate a
reunion by assisting both parties in establishing direct contact.
- If you register prior to your child being 18+ years of age, you will be
notified if their adoptive parents register on their behalf. If mutually
desired, Manitoba Post-Adoption Services will facilitate a reunion
by assisting both parties in establishing direct contact.
Requesting Search Services for your child who was placed for adoption:
- A birth parent, whose child’s adoption was granted in Manitoba, may
register to have contact/share identifying information as well as have a
search conducted for their adult child.
- Eligible birth parents must request their child’s pre-adoption and
substituted birth registrations before a search for their adult child
will be preformed.
- A search will not be performed for any person who is under 18 years of
age or who has filed a Contact/Disclosure Veto or Contact Preference for
no contact.
