Manitoba Parks Backcountry Registration

If you are heading out on a backcountry trail or water route in a Manitoba provincial park, please complete this backcountry registration form. Generally, backcountry means a remote area that is not road accessible and has limited to no facilities. If you are going on a short, 1-2 hour adventure, completing this form is not necessary. Information collected through this form will help Manitoba Parks to facilitate contact in the case of a natural emergency such as a wildfire or windstorm.

It is your responsibility to leave a detailed trip plan with a trusted emergency contact. This contact should be someone who knows your route and can notify authorities if you fail to return as expected.

Backcountry travel conditions may be unpredictable, and emergency services may be limited or unavailable. By participating in backcountry travel, each individual is deemed to have willingly assumed all risks associated with backcountry travel.

Manitoba does not monitor individual or group trips or follow up to confirm travellers’ safe return. Travellers are responsible for leaving a detailed trip plan with a trusted emergency contact who may notify authorities if they fail to return as expected.

Collection Notice

This personal information is being collected under the authority of s. 36(1)(b) of The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (“FIPPA”). It will be used by Manitoba Parks for the purpose of facilitating contact, location, evacuation and extraction in the case of a natural emergency and administering the Manitoba Parks Backcountry Registration system. It may be necessary for Manitoba Parks to share some of the personal information collected with the Manitoba Wildfire Service, Manitoba Conservation Officer Service, and the Manitoba Emergency Management Organization for the purpose of contact, location, evacuation and extraction in the case of a natural emergency.

Your personal information is protected by FIPPA and will not be used or disclosed for any other purposes, except as authorized by law.
