Diversity Child Care Start-Up Grant

Application Form

Program Description

The purpose of the Diversity Child Care Start-Up Grant (DCSG) is to support community organizations to develop child care options that address service gaps by meeting the unique needs of their families (ex: language, accessibility, non-standard/extended hours of care, rural/remote location and culturally appropriate and safe programming).

DCSG funding may be used to help offset the wages of staff directly involved in the operation and/or administration of child care or child-minding services, to purchase equipment required for those services, or to support renovations required to ensure dedicated spaces meet regulatory and/or licensing requirements. Marketing and promotional activities are not eligible.

The amount of grant funding received for which you may be eligible depends on the business plan submitted with a DCSG application form. Eligible applicants developing new child care services will receive a one-time grant of $6,250 per full-time-equivalent child care space as per their business plan. The total amount must not exceed $100,000.00 per applicant, subject to the availability of government funding.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Community organizations that would like to fulfill unmet child care needs in their community
  • Recipients of the Casual Early Learning and Child Care Grant if they meet program eligibility requirements
  • A successful business plan that will provide new and flexible child care services out of a community-based or home-based location

Note: Child-minding services are eligible if they meet the following Child Care Regulation 62/86 exemptions:
    • parents are on-site

    • the community-based organization is licensed under The Social Services Administration Act

    • before and after school care is provided during a children's recreation program

  • Priority may be given to projects that address the key service gaps identified in the Service Delivery Section below.
