Classification As A Child Care Worker Application

The application processing time is four to six weeks.

The Child Care Assistant (CCA) classification provides entry-level credentials to residents of Canada and is required to legally work as a child care employee or a volunteer in a licensed child care centre or group child care home in Manitoba. Note: Classification is recommended but not required for Manitoba licensed family home-based child care providers.

Classification levels in Manitoba are based on completed post-secondary education. There are three levels in Manitoba:

Child Care Assistant (CCA)
Early Childhood Educator II (ECE II)
Early Childhood Educicator III (ECE III)

The process of classification must be completed before beginning employment or volunteer work at a licensed Manitoba child care facility.

Application Requirements and Eligibility:

One piece of Government issued ID with a valid Manitoba address OR two pieces of ID to confirm your name and address. Please ensure the address on your ID matches the address you list on the application form.
If you are under 18 years of age, your application will not be processed until you have been offered employment in a licensed Manitoba child care facility. Notification of your employment will be provided to Manitoba Early Learning and Child Care on your behalf by the child care facility.
Post-secondary education specific to early childhood education is not required for the Child Care Assistant (CCA) classification level.

Utility bill or rental agreement for proof of address

There is no charge to apply for classification in Manitoba.

Additional Requirements for Employment:

All child care workers will be required to confirm their status in Canada and complete a Criminal record Check and a Child Abuse Registry Check upon employment in any child care facility.
Within the first year of employment, all Child Care Assistants and licensed family home-based child care providers are required to complete a forty-hour post-secondary training course requirement related to early childhood education.

The Canada Free Trade Agreement is available to Canadian residents who have been employed in or have certification as an early childhood educator from another Canadian jurisdiction and who wish to apply for classification in Manitoba. The assessment is based on the equivalency of their certification and their standing with the other Canadian jurisdiction (see Manitoba Child Care Regulation, M.R. 62/86, section 3.1 (4)).
